Role Overview:
As a First Line of Defense Operational Risk Manager, you will play a critical role in supporting the bank’s credit, liquidity, and market risk functions by ensuring the appropriate design and implementation of risk management practices. You will work closely with various stakeholders to identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks across the organization. Your expertise will be essential in maintaining an effective risk framework, enhancing risk awareness, and driving a strong risk culture within the bank.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the credit, liquidity, and market risk teams to develop and implement robust operational risk management frameworks, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify and evaluate operational risks, ensuring appropriate controls and mitigation strategies are in place.
- Monitor risk indicators, key risk metrics, and risk appetite to proactively identify emerging risks and trends.
- Provide guidance and support to business units to ensure compliance with internal policies, external regulations, and industry best practices.
- Lead the development and delivery of risk training programs to enhance risk awareness and understanding among staff.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen risk management practices and promote efficiency within the first line of defense.
- Conduct risk incident investigations, root cause analysis, and develop appropriate remedial actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Prepare and present risk reports to senior management, highlighting key risk issues, trends, and recommendations.
Requirements:
- Experience in operational risk management within the financial services industry.
- Strong understanding of credit, liquidity, and market risk concepts, regulations, and industry practices.
- Proven track record in designing and implementing operational risk management frameworks and practices.
- Solid knowledge of risk assessment methodologies, control frameworks, and risk appetite frameworks.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements, such as Basel III, Dodd-Frank Act, and other relevant regulations.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data to identify trends and potential risks.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CRM, PRM, CFA, or similar) will be an advantage.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, risk management, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
